I’m go glad you brought this up! I’ve been wondering what people will say for a long time. I always figured it would be “twenty ten,” but every time I hear the year mentioned, it’s been “two thousand ten.” I think the latter, unfortunately, is going to be the accepted version. I’m going to say “twenty ten,” though. It sounds futuristic (and it’s more efficient).

The further in the future you go, the more likely it seems the “twenty” is invoked. For example, “two thousand ten” seems current, but people always say “twenty twelve” when they talk about the next presidential election or the ridiculous Mayan apocalypse.
